Sourcing standard Deal values are as-announced unless stated otherwise, in the currency reported, with the year. Announced and completed values often differ; where they do, both are given. Where sources conflict, a range is given rather than a single figure — a range is an honest answer and a false single number is not. Where no defensible figure exists, the entry says so rather than estimating. Write-downs and impairments are as-reported, with the year and the reporting entity. In distressed entries, debt cancelled , new money and enterprise value are kept separate, because conflating them is the most common error in restructuring reporting.
Entries are compiled from the public record. Where a figure is hedged in the text — "reported", "sources differ", "approximately" — that hedge is deliberate and should be read as part of the entry.
